About our Programs

Through the support of our donors and volunteers, we’re able to help children two different ways:

Community-based program

Children get a chance to discover life’s possibilities through the support, encouragement and guidance of a trusted adult. Mentors may be an individual, a couple, or a family. Through the community-based program, role models (Bigs) and children (Littles) often spend time together out and about. How they spend their time depends on their interests, and may include such things as:

  • Hike, bike, golf, fish, or bowl
  • Watch movies
  • See a local play or dance production
  • Develop hobbies and interests such as playing an instrument, photography, or astrology

Bigs undergo a careful interview process and background check. Then we match Bigs and Littles based on location, personalities and preferences. Some Bigs meet their Littles on the weekends. Others get together in the evenings. Each match is unique and together, they determine a schedule that works for them.

Many of these mutually rewarding relationships last for years.

School-based program

Sometimes kids just need a little extra help at school. Someone to encourage them, to praise their good grades, to help with homework, or talk about the problems they're having. Or maybe even just play a little ball. The key is knowing someone will be there for them – whatever they may need that day. The school-based program makes this all possible.

Bigs meet their Littles on campus during lunchtime or after school, typically an hour a week. A small time commitment for the Big, but a huge difference in the life of a Little.

Teachers are huge supporters of this program, as they see students return from their time with their Big filled with confidence, smiling, ready to learn and eager to succeed.
